The Plus+ Size Life – Breaking Out the Bikini
A few weeks ago I wrote about how I was switching it up and going outside of my fashion comfort zone by working up the confidence to wear a bikini in public. While, this past weekend I hit up Las Vegas with Nicole for the Cosmoprof North America conference and of course we scheduled in a pool day, so I took this as the perfect time to take the plunge and rock the bikini.

First, let me tell you, shopping for a plus-size bikini took some patience. The first one I purchased from Target was just a tad too small in the bust and I really didn’t need to have the girls be popping out in the middle of the pool. The other issue is that I wanted my bikini bottoms to be slightly high-waisted which proved to be a bit of a challenge since I have such a long torso.

The winner, came from Simply Be. The bikini tops used my bra size (vs. a top size) which meant the ta-ta’s were nice and secure while the bottoms were about as high-waisted as I was gonna get. Now, I’m not gonna lie, I did pack an extra tankini top in my pool tote, just in case I I needed to change, however I’m happy to say I rocked that bikini ALL DAMN DAY.

I will say it was a little nerve wracking at first, I haven’t worn a bikini since I was 7-years old. All that changed however when I was approached by a fellow pool dweller. This lovely lady came over to me to ask not only where I got my bikini but also complement me on not being afraid. It was that small, 5-minute conversation that let me give-up the last few hang-ups I had about really being out there.
What I Wore:
