OUAT Recap: The Dread Pirate Hook

Dark Hook is not playing around here folks. While Emma might have been light with just a hint of dark oneness, Hook is dark with maybe a smidge of light. From the bat he is raring to go and get this Dark One on, which in all fairness he did warn Emma about.

Camelot of Past: After reliving some of his worst losses (his hand, Milah, Emma becoming the Dark One) Killian emerges from the D.O. vault as Dark Hook and is promptly greeted by in your head Rumple. While Hook manages to shut out the voices for the bit, voice Rumple gets through to him by bringing up the long standing feud between IRL Rumple and himself. Before Rumple can do too much damage, Emma shows up in her new Dark One getup and uses the same ploy Killian used on her to get rid of in your head Rumple, love. Alas that didn’t last long as turns out Emma didn’t tell Hook the whole truth about where his half of excalibur was which did nothing but piss off Hook. Even after Emma gave him excalibur, he was basically playing her and everyone as they walked up to Granny’s hand in hand. Merlin however might not have magic anymore but is not stupid, we see him leaving his voicemail as Hook comes strolling in. Turns out Emma didn’t cast the dark curse after all, Hook did. Since Nimue is inside all Dark One’s, Hook is able to crush Merlin’s heart to enact the curse, because even though he was pissed off at Emma, he wasn’t about to kill her and Nimue does still love Merlin.  Emma however isn’t about to let Dark Hook run free in Storybrooke, while Hook cast the curse, it was Emma who took everyone’s memories so no one would remember that Hook was dark.

Storybrooke of Now: To say Hook is pissed off is putting it mildly. Hook is on a rampage. First he allows Zelena to put the magic stopping cuff on Emma, then is leaves her frozen (via squid ink) on the couch, and he took parts of her memories so that she can’t remember what he is up to.  Emma is soon rescued by the Charmings and Regina but, not shocking, no one trusts her even after she reveals that all she was trying to do this whole time was save Killian and remove the darkness forever.  While Emma is trying to regain some trust, Hook is off goading Rumple in a rematch of their duel. Turns out that Hook was never really out to kill Rumple, he just needed some of his blood. In the meantime, Emma managed to recruit Henry into Operation Cobra Part 2 in order hunt down the dream catchers that hold everyone’s memories. That little mission managed to get her enough trust for him to remove her cuff so everyone can get their memories back. So what was it that Hook didn’t want Emma to remember? Turns out that Hook needed the blood of someone who has been to hell and back aka Rumple to open out the portal to the Underworld, which just so happens to reside in the lake in the middle of Storybrooke. The hour closed with Hook welcoming Nimue and the rest of the past Dark One’s into Storybrooke so they can snuff out the light.

So basically that lake is Storybrooke’s own version of a hellmouth. Interesting.
