Mickey: The True Original Experience
Updated: Jul 27, 2019
Hey there, hi there, ho there, I’m as happy as can be! Why you ask?
Well… M*I*C*K*E*Y M*O*U*S*E, that is why.
Back in November Disney opened up the Mickey: The True Original exhibit here in NYC. Yup, New York FINALLY got some of the Mickey 90th love in the form of an amazing, interactive art exhibit.

Over the course of the past three months, I have gone three times. The first was of course opening day (you can see the full video down below) and I was blown away. Seeing as I wasn’t sure what I was walking into, what I was true brought tears to my eyes.

Each room is themed to different areas of Mickey’s journey over the last 90-years. There was everything from a massive recreation of the Steamboat Willie ship, to a room dedicated to the Ink & Paint ladies, a full on Sorcerer Mickey room (complete with a GIANT Sorcerer Mickey hat photo opp), and what turned out to be my favorite room…the Mickey Mouse Club room.

I am a 90’s kid, which means I grew up watching the New MMC with Justin Timberlake, Brittany Spears, Keri Russell, etc and ALL I ever wanted was to be a member of the Mickey Mouse Club.
Walking into a room that re-created the set from the MMC was like a full on dream come true. Around the room you could also find videos from both the original and new MMC casts and pulled from the Disney Archives, the original Mickey Mouse Club uniforms worn by Annette Funicello.

Oh, there was also ice cream from the yummy Ample Hills Creamery Mickey 90 flavors.

Mickey (and Minnie) both turned the big 9-0 on November 18th and what better way to celebrate than once again returning to the exhibit. Only this time there was a very special guest:
Mickey Mouse himself.

MICKEY MOUSE!!
My third and find time visiting the exhibition was just a few days ago. To celebrate National Polka Dot Day and Rock the Dots, I attended a special hard ticketed event to celebrate our style queen, Minnie Mouse.

Our style QUEEN, Minnie Mouse
The party included a brand new art piece dedicated to Miss Minnie, but also a full on party with with Minnie herself. We ate, drank, and danced the night way all while rocking our dots.

Overall I loved every single one of my visits to the Mickey: The True Original exhibit. Being so far from the parks means it’s hard to celebrate all things Disney, plus a little of permeant FOMO. So it was really great that us NYC Disney fans got to join in for the Mickey 90th fun. Plus I met some really great fans along with way.

The exhibit will remain open to February 10, 2019 so go now while you can. You can purchase your tickets here.
See ya real soon pals!
