Meet the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men’s Figure Skating Team
This past Sunday the men of U.S. Figure Skating took to the ice to battle not just for the U.S. Figure Skating National Championship title but also for one of the two spots on this US Olympic Figure Skating Team that will head to Sochi, Russia next month.
Leading the competition was Jeremy Abbott who after his short program held a 6-point lead. While Abbott didn’t skate a flawless program he did manage a quad and a series of triples, those jumps coupled with this lead was enough to land him in the top spot earning him the Championship and gold medal. The 2012 champ Max Aaron fell to third place taking home the bronze. The one to really watch however is the silver medalist Jason Brown. Brown skated a program that was so mesmerizing you forgot that his routine didn’t have a quad element in it (almost unheard for men’s programs these days); his footwork on the ice is short of spectacular and his long program was breathtaking.
Late Sunday night (while the rest of us were watching the Golden Globes), the US Figure Skating committee as announced its picks for who will be heading to Sochi next month. Making the cut for Team USA are Jeremy Abbott and Jason Brown.
