#MakeoverMonday | (high)Light It Up
People we are living in a glow it up or go home world. I am of course talking about highlighters. The once forgotten product in our makeup cases that was used oh so subtly on our brow and cheekbones has flipped the script and become the main star. In the last few months strobing has overtaken contouring to be the next big trend and everyone is stocking up on highlighters like they will soon be discontinued like our beloved [insert product here].
I’ve made it my mission over the last few months to try as many highlighters as I could get my hands on. I’ve tried so many I know have a dedicated drawer in my GlamBox just for highlighters. So which have glow power? Read on as I rate list my favorites.

BECCA Shimmering Pressed Skin Perfector in Opal – My first encounter with BECCA was last summer when getting my makeup done at PUCKER and the glow was amazing. I grabbed Opal during one of my many Sephora runs and it has been one of my glow staples ever since. The highlight is buildable, which is good for those who don’t want to blind people as they walk outside.
Jeffree Star Skin Frost in Ice Cold – Jeffree Star has long been one of the king’s of the liquid lip scene and has recently released his Skin Frost highlighter collection. I managed to get in on the action during his second re-stock and snapped up Ice Cold and man let me tell you, if you want a highlighter that will make you “shine like the top of the Chrysler building” Skin Frost is for you. Plus you get a TON of product for the price. Like I will be 80 yrs old and still using this pan of skin front [JK product does expire so please don’t hord product past expiration dates].
Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Highlighter in Fireball – This lovely highlight is great for my “we’re gonna glow all day bitch” look. Urban Decay isn’t kidding with that 8-hour title. I wore right as the weather was going from breezy spring to depths of hell summer and this held up quite nicely, just don’t forget your setting spray.
NYX Strobe of Genius Pallette – I don’t know of any other palette that gives you 7 different highlighters for $20. All the shades are very pretty and pigmented however the real star of palette is the lavender shade. I have yet to see a palette available here in the States that has a lavender highlighter and it is one of the best shades I’ve tried. I am really going to need NYX to make it a single.
Cover FX Click Sticks – Okay, this lil’ click sticks from Cover FX are so freaking cute and great for travel. I love using cream highlighters under my powder or if I’m doing minimal makeup.

Hourglass Ambient Highlight in Dim Light – Now the folks on YouTube have been RAVING about the Ambient highlighters for a while now so I finally caved and bought one. Did it give me an out of this world glow? No. However that is fine because it does give this great “lit from within” look that is very nice for those time when you just want to tone it down.
Soap & Glory Glow all Out – What I loved about the Glow All Out is that you can use it both as a highlighter or a face powder. There is just enough shimmer to act as a light highlighter but if you need a face powder to touch-up with in the middle of the day, you don’t have to worry about looking like a human disco ball.
Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Highlighter Stick is another great stick/cream highlighter that is also super affordable ($10.99). Again great for travel or for mid-day glow touch-ups.
Hard Candy Just Glow! Illuminating Duo in Twinkle Star – If you are a girl on a budget that is looking for a good highlighter that won’t break the bank, Twinkle Star from Hard Candy is for you. You will get serious glow power in two shades for $8, how can you go wrong??
There you have it some of my favorite highlighters for the summer. Let me know in the comments if I missed any or what your favorite ways to highlight are.
