#MakeoverMonday Battle of the Matte Liquid Lip

Thanks to Kylie Jenner, the matte lip has exploded on the beauty scene. This means that brand after brand are working to churn out a matte liquid lipstick that will rival the always sold out Kylie Lip Kit.

Two of the most popular matte lippies are from tarte and Maybelline. Both their matte lines have a wide shade offering but are on the opposite sides of the budget scale. Now seeing that I’ve given both of these a good sold go-round, why not see who would win in a matte liquid lip batte.

Let’s get ready to RUMMMBBBLEEE

Round 1 – Pigment 

Let’s face, when all want a lip color with awesome pigment so in this category, the tarteist™ creamy matte lip paint wins hands down. The color is super rich and in one swipe you’ve got amazing colour.

Round 2 – Staying Power 

One of the downsides of matte lip colours is how quickly it fades after everything from eating, drinking and even just breathing. In this round the winner is Maybelline’s Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid. After drinking a full cup of tea, my lips were still looking pretty much on point.

Round 3 – Comfort 

Matte lipsticks are known to be drying and matte liquids tend to lean a bit more on the drying side then their tube-set cousins. The problem with the tarteist™ lip paint is that well the pigment and colour is amazing, within about 15-mins my lips looked super dehydrated, which is not cute. On the flip side, the Vivid Matte felt almost like a lip balm the whole time and actually left my lips feeling a bit conditioned.

WINNER – Maybelline 

Here’s the thing, I really wanted to like the tarteist™ matte lip paint, I really did as I love so many other tarte products. The biggest issue with me was the over drying of my lips, it just didn’t look (or feel) all the great. The Maybelline Vivid Matte however just felt so good the whole the day and had a bit more staying power. True I had to apply a few more coats than the tarte one, but overall it’s the one I like the best.
