So folks, after about a year’s worth of hype, AMC debuted its spin-off/prequel Fear the Walking Dead in a 90-minute premiere that had everyone (including myself) hoping this would will the void ‘The Walking Dead’ has left. So the question here is did it?
FTWD takes place during the time that Rick Grimes is in his coma, showing us what happened during the early stages of the outbreak. FWTD brings us not only a new set of characters but also a new backdrop, the massively populated Los Angeles. The show will focus on a blended family that is, as usual, just trying to stay alive and together.

So, how as the premiere? In two words, slow burn. During lots of discussions with friends and some fellow nerds, one concern I had was that IF the producers do use the slow burn technique, it would be too slow for us rabid TWD fans who know what is going on. I was right.
Granted the first 3 minutes had some good suspense (which would’ve had more impact had AMC not released it online earlier this week) that showed as a walker in all her new, none decomposing glory. After that, it wasn’t till the last 10-minutes that we got some more walker action. The story working on drug addict Nick and his family.

So what now? Well now that the walkers are starting to take over the city, it’s only a matter of time before we get some more of the action we are used to getting from TWD. The main issue I see here is will FTWD have enough character development to make us care what happens to these people?
