Comedy Central Mocks Reality TV with Another Period

For weeks I’ve been seeing TV spots run during @midnight for the new Comedy Central show Another Period and honestly I had no clue what it was about.

My conclusion after watching the first two episodes is that if you took the ridiculousness of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and paired it with the historical drama of Downtown Abbey you get Another Period.

Meet the Bellacourts, a new money family in turn of the century Rhode Island. They live a lavish life that includes a wine and cheese servant (sign me up for one of the those), a custard bell, and of course a house full of staff that have their own drama going on. Sisters Lillian (Natasha Leggero) and Beatrice (Riki Lindhome) have really only one goal be super famous.

I was expecting a vaguely funny show. As much as I love Lindhome, I have usually found Leggero’s humor not to my taste. However, I was pleasantly surprised as how hilarious this show is. From the coke wine binge with Helen Keller, to the required monthly sex ritual between Lillian, Beatrice and their husbands, to the fact that they somehow got Christina Hendricks, fresh off the end of Mad Men, to play the mysterious new housekeep Celine/Chair.

This is one of the stronger scripted series Comedy Central has given us, so give it a try because lets be honest, what else are you going to watch this summer?

Another Period premieres tonight, June 23 at 10:30pm ET on Comedy Central.
