A Thank You Letter to Donna Karan
Just moments ago I read the WWD article that announced that Donna Karan is stepping down from her role as chief designer of Donna Karan International and I’m pretty sure my heart stopped for a moment. My first thought was this is a joke then I realized that no, after 31 years of giving us amazing designs and inspiring women everywhere Ms. Karan is stepping away from one love and straight into the arms of another, her Urban Zen Project.

I’ve written numerous times about how Donna was my first real fashion inspiration with her DKNY line but it wasn’t till I moved to New York City and got up close and personal with the brand and her designs I that really felt the power of the brand. Whether it’s DKNY or Donna Karan Collection, each piece has a story behind it and that story is about your NYC journey. I’ve had the privilege to see these collections up close at NYFW and I can tell you, there is no other show like a Donna Karan show.

So I say this with all the love in my heart, THANK YOU DONNA. Thank you for helping this lost girl from Colorado discover her journey. Thank you for being a powerful and amazing role model and for designing clothes that show the strength, power, and joy it is to be a women. You deserve all the successes that come to you. I can’t wait to see where your path takes you next.
