5 Broadway Shows to See This Winter
I am at my core a musical theater nerd. I got my start in school performances and that led me to my love of movies, TV, and fashion. So it’s no wonder that being in New York City and just a stones throw away from Broadway makes my heart a putter with happiness. Broadway is the home of some of the longest running musicals out there, but there are also some newer shows that are just as great whether they are a totally new production or an amazing revival. Either way, I would highly recommend that you get tickets to a Broadway show from ticket sites like Ticket Club so you can experience what an amazing time it is.
5. On the Town
This revival is perfect if, like me, you love old time musicals. You know the ones with a big orchestra, tons of dancing, and of course iconic shows. The shows big number is of course the legendary “New York, New York” and it screams of old, iconic New York. I will admit, I got teary eyed as the show opened with the “Star Spangled Banner” sung by one of the company members and the whole audience rose to their feet to salute the American Flag.
4. If/Then
Who wouldn’t want to go see Broadway powerhouse and Tony Winner Idina Menzel sing something other than “Let It Go”? Ya that is what I thought, but you better hurry as this show does close in March.
3. Cabaret
Emma Stone is currently making her Broadway debut till Feb. 15th, after that actress Sienna Miller takes the stage with the legendary Alan Cumming in his Tony winning role as the Emcee. I saw this last spring and Alan is hands-down amazing. So amazing in fact that I am going again in before the Kit-Kat club closes on March 29th.
2. Wicked
I’m a sucker for anything Wizzard of Oz related and Wicked is just such a fantastic show. I’ve seen it five times and never get sick of it. What is not to love about flying monkeys, Glenda the Good Witch, and some powerhouse singing.
1. Hedwig and the Angry Inch
This show is not for the faint of heart but damn is it good. I had the privilege to see the show over the summer with Tony Winner Neil Patrick Harris and now I’m seeing it again as the musical’s author John Cameron Mitchell takes on the role.
